currently cooking: avocado toasts

S is back in NYC for business this week and (until my mother arrives at least!) I have been left to my own devices.

It's been busy and it's been hot. Due to these very reasons cooking a meal for myself has not been high on my priority list. Still, a girl has got to eat!

Answer? Avocado toast.

I got this idea after thumbing through Goop's new cookbook It's All Good. I wouldn't really call it a recipe because toast, mayo, a freshly sliced avocado and salt and pepper isn't too difficult an idea to grasp.

Still, I love the combo so much, I'm tempted to try different variations. The adorable cooking blog Annie's Hungry offers 3 delicious ideas:

-smoked salmon, cream cheese and avocado
- chicken, spicy salsa and avocado
-"naked avocado" served with a poached egg

Visit Annie's blog (here) for the full recipes. Deliciousness.

headband turbans

"Where do you get your headbands?"
--Marnie to Charlie's new girlfriend Audrey on Girls

Okay, so I'm fully prepared to take get some flack for this one, but I can't help but crush on the headband turbans that keeping popping up on Pinterest. Isn't there something wonderfully Liz Taylor (the caftan years) about them?

When the temps soar and you're headed for the beach, I can't think of a better way to keep your hair out of the way and still look pulled together.

What's the verdict? Would you rock a headband turban? I'm leaning toward the silk versions. They feel much more vintage chic and less outdoor music festival (no offense to the "jammers" nearest and dearest to my heart).

crossfire hurricane

Even the mildest of music fans at least "enjoys" The Rolling Stones. We were even fortunate enough to catch them in concert (with my parents, no doubt) a few years ago.

Debatably the best rock band ever, I'm embarrassed to say that I never really got that into them. Sure, I love "Ruby Tuesday" as much as the next person, but that's where my fascination ended.

All of that changed when S and I caught  the new documentary Crossfire Hurricane this weekend.

photographic duvets

I know that I'm far too mature for these (puh-lease), but tell me that these photographic duvets aren't just the ticket for a kid's bedroom?

By Dutch label Snurk (which translates to "snore"), image options include everything from an astronaut (pictured above) to sweet and cuddly sleeping animals such as Bob the dog or

 Ollie the cat.

friday

Happy Friday, friends! Flowers are blooming and my allergies are barking, but the weekend is nearly upon us so who can complain?

It's a dreary, rainy afternoon here in Nash so here are a few cheerful links to brighten the last few hours before the weekend officially begins.

etsy finds: ArcOfaDiver

Digging ArcOfaDiver's interesting bag collection after coming across their Etsy shop.

I've got my eye set on the Tico striped school satchel (bottom right above) from their Coastal Collection. This looks like an ideal option for a new work bag. I just got a brand new company MacBook that I'm terrified of accidentally destroying.

I also wouldn't turn the cross body Seafarer Bag (in solid or stripe)....

or these gold accented Wallet/Clutch designs.

currently cooking: crustless mini quiche

Back in my college days, I relied on diet instead of exercise to keep it fit. Now, it's a healthier combo of both, but there was a time when I was hardcore believer in the South Beach Diet.

There's nothing wrong with low carb, but completely giving them up as Phase 1 of the diet requires doesn't really set you up for long term success. Still, one of the recipes I loved and still enjoy making are the Diet's Egg and Spinach Cups.

Basically, these tiny, individual quiches (made in a muffin pan) combine everything I love about the brunch staple minus the crust. They are delicious, super light and even tasty enough to be man friendly.

a swell getup for...a day in the park

Spring has sprung! Sandal weather abounds. No jackets required! In short? It's time to get outside.

I can't think of a better way to experience the warm weather than a walk through the park. Personally, I prefer to mosey through Bicentennial with S and Libby dog. Now that the temps are hovering in the 80's, however, a cool refreshment might become a necessary accompaniment.  Jeni's anyone?

I'm interested in pulling together my own chic yet comfy outdoor uniform like the gal above. Here are a few pieces to inspire!

A classic soft striped tee, ankle cut white denim,  sweet flat sandals with a rocking pedi? Pass the ice cream, please!

the weeks

Mondays are never easy so I often rely on my dear friend Spotify to help me through. Today, I'm listening to Jackson, Mississippi-turned-Nashville residents The Weeks.

Their song "Buttons" is my current jam. It's gritty, garage-y and I like it.

weekend come early

What's that you say? It's only Thursday? Well, that's okay by me.

After an insanely hectic few weeks, I'm cashing in some vacay time and starting this weekend early. Oh la la!

On the agenda? Sleeping late, getting a massage at this spa which boasts a rad star ceiling, spending time in the yard at the new house, visiting with pals B and R before catching a midnight showing of The Great Gatsby in 3D (insert over-the-top movie man voice here). I can hardly wait.

Setting aside Saturday afternoon to spend reading David Sedaris's new book Let's Explore Diabetes with Owls.

I've heard good things. To check out the always awesome Sedaris on NPR's Fresh Air a few weeks ago, click here.
