sailing away

S and I were looking for the right way to say goodbye to NYC.

How do you say goodbye to your first home together? New York was the place we got engaged, forged our careers, lived our first years as newlyweds... It wasn't going to be easy, but leave it to him to surprise me with the perfect way to say "so long."

I'd always wanted to go sailing so you can imagine how thrilled I was when S surprised me with tickets for a Sunday afternoon sail down the Hudson River and into New York Harbor.

We boarded this giant sailboat while I fought the nerdy urge to put on a life vest.

Next, we were out to sea! The sails went up. The wind blew. The sea was rough that day, my friends (not really at all).

Our trusty crew consisted of a friendly band of bearded hipsters who not only worked the ship, but also tended to your beverage requests. Water, soda, juice? Nah. Wine, champagne and beer? That's more like it.

All beverages were included in your ticket price. They were also unlimited. Pork Slap Pale Ale anyone?

The boat made its way along the West Side down to the Financial District...

before getting up close and personal with Lady Liberty.

Here's a video of our boat sailing away from the Statue of Liberty.

So long, Big Apple. We'll love you forever.

chaos!

Here is a snappy little tune for your Monday. I hope it puts a little extra pep in your step.

As for things on our end, we could use all the pep we can get! I can officially share the news that we are moving to a new city! I start a new job in less than two weeks so our timeline is pretty tight.

There is much to share and update on, but for now, I hope you enjoy this jam. I also hope your Monday was lovely (and far less hectic than my own).

a swell getup for...a hazy summer weekend

black Flax dress with white converse
Quite possibly the perfect summer ensemble. A flowy, billowing black sleeveless dress, converse and a fresh bouquet of flowers...I want to wear this everyday.

Saucy sunnies, that turquoise ring and an oversize printed clutch seal the deal. I'm in love.

The simplicity of a black dress with sneakers is so effortless and chic! Also, to be clear, I mean a black dress with sneakers...not black dress sneakers. As I don't think those are a good look for anyone...

Thrown on for a casual breakfast out or a quick run to the farmer's market, I can hardly imagine a better ensemble for those morning weekend errands.

Details below!

a swell getup for...a hazy summer weekend

black scoopneck cotton dress with pocket, $42 at sheinside.com
turquoise cocktail ring, $225 from Wendy Mink
sun shades, $355 by The Row
Flamingo Palms clutch, $65 by Aloha Rags
classic white Converse sneakers, $80 at converse.com

P.S. Has carrying a fresh bouquet of flowers ever been known to make a person look less than awesome?

painted wooden spoons

Painted Wooden Spoons

For those who weren't sure, I don't have a crafty bone in my body. I lack the talent and the patience to tackle such projects. I'm pretty certain I'd end up gluing my fingers together or worse if I was given the proper supplies.

Having said that, I'm totally intrigued by these painted spoons. Aren't they nifty?

bearded fellows

Paul McCartney with a beard is magical.

Beards or no beards? That is the question.

As of late, the hubs decided to let loose. S has been growing a beard for the past few weeks. Despite the fact that it's terribly scratchy, I have to say I'm digging the results.

Judge for yourself below.

Yay, beard!

P.S. Remember this post? Best. chart. ever.

P.P.S. Before the beard got too serious, S shaved it in advance of a pal's wedding where he was a groomsman. RIP, beard.

Ombre trio brass bracelets by Garnett Jewelry in blue or in sunset. Aren't they lovely?

Wear them together or wear them apart. At $60 for three, the possibilities seem endless.

Really hoping that these come back in stock. Track said dream with me here.

from me to you...

Do something mah-velous.

P.S. Does anyone know how to recreate this hairstyle? It's so beautiful!
