a good read

I finished reading Steve Martin's new book, An Object of Beauty at 12:30 last night.

The fact that I fought off sleep to finish it shows what a great read this was (especially since I'm 4 days in to a detox diet and sleep=not being hungry)!

The story focuses on an (often overly) ambitious young art dealer named Lacey Yaeger as she navigates New York's art scene beginning in the early 1990's through the present day.

The book contains clear, colorful images of many of the works Lacey encounters. These varying art styles add another dimension to a story that's about so much more than auctions, galleries, paintings and scupltures.

Yes, this is a story about the "art world," but it's also a story with compelling characters who exist in a recognizable yet distant New York City.

As you glide through the chapters, the story makes you feel as though you are experiencing highs and lows of a city you know well...even if you didn't experience the majority of the events described first hand.

Good stuff. I highly recommend.
